- ADHESION OF GLASSES AND MELTS OF THE (Ge21Te79)100 – X(AgI)X (X = 30, 40, 50) SYSTEM TO QUARTZ GLASS

The effect of adhesive contact formation temperature on the interphase strength in the glass (Ge21Te79)100 – x(AgI)x–quartz glass systems was studied. The contact angles of quartz glass with glass melts of the (Ge21Te79)100 – x(AgI)x system and the surface tension of chalcogenide glasses were experimentally determined. The temperature dependences of the work of adhesion of glass melts of the (Ge21Te79)100 – x(AgI)x system to quartz glass were studied. It was found that the adhesion strength of the solid-phase boundary correlates with the work of adhesion of the chalcogenide melt to the quartz glass surface. It was shown that the adhesion strength of glass of the (Ge21Te79)100 – x(AgI)x system to quartz glass increases from 508 to 1104 kPa with an increase in the silver iodide content from 30 to 50 mol%.

- QUARTZ GLASS PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY FROM NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC RAW MATERIALS

Using two industrial production processes, KS-4V and KI grade glasses were produced from synthetic silica (SDS) and natural quartz. A comparison of the optical characteristics of the resulting glasses in the UV spectral range showed that the SDS-produced glasses exhibit greater transparency and higher transmittance in the wavelength range of 190–1000 nm. The difference in transmittance values is due to both the specific process flow diagrams used to produce the glasses and the trace element purity of the starting materials.
