The magazine «Glass and Ceramics» for May 2022 is out of print

Dear colleagues!

Viktor Osipov President of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia is a member of the editorial board of the journal "Glass and Ceramics".

We inform you that the 5th issue of the monthly scientific and technical journal "Glass and Ceramics" for 2022 is out of print.

Contents of the May issue:

- FEATURES OF CRYSTALLIZATION OF LITHIUM ALUMINOSILICATE GLASS MICROBALLS PRODUCED IN A HIGH-TEMPERATURE PLASMA FLOW

The influence of the process of spheroidization in a high-temperature plasma flow of glass based on the Li2O–Al2O3–SiO2 (LAS) system doped with 1.0 mol.% Nd2O3 on its crystallization properties has been studied. The resulting microballoons 32–64 µm in size are characterized by a significantly higher glass transition temperature Tg compared to Tg of the original glass, which can be associated both with a change in the chemical composition during spheroidization and with a fundamentally different thermal history of microballoons and glass. Despite the slow crystallization kinetics, in microballoons, as well as in the original glass, under the influence of heat treatment, a glass-ceramic structure is formed based on α-eucryptite-like solid solutions LixAlxSi1 – xO2, indicating the possibility of both obtaining microballoons with the glass-ceramic structure and varying their temperature coefficient of linear expansion near zero values.

- INCREASING THE QUALITY OF SAFE TEMPERED GLASS DURING PRODUCTION

Selective control of produced tempered glasses was carried out. Deviations of bent products from a given shape are revealed. Linear adaptive models have been compiled that describe the dependence of the shape of products and the results of tests for mechanical strength on the hardening mode. Simulation modeling of the tempering process control algorithm shows the possibility of improving the quality of produced safety tempered glasses.

- SOME FEATURES OF THE TECHNOLOGY OF PROCESSING CONTAINER GLASS

Some features of container cullet processing technology are considered. Schemes of differentiated optical separation of a mixture of colorless, brown and green cullet are presented.

- INFLUENCE OF MAGNETITE ON THE RADIO ABSORBING PROPERTIES OF POROUS GLASS COMPOSITE IN THE HIGH-FREQUENCY REGION

The influence of magnetite addition in the form of pyrite cinders on the physical-mechanical and radio-absorbing properties of the synthesized glass composite by the method of "cold" foaming is considered. Replacing glass powder with magnetite in the original liquid glass composition reduces the foaming coefficient from 210 to 130%, which is due to a decrease in the viscosity of the composition due to the particle size of the additive (up to 160 μm), their high density (5100 kg/m3) and porous structure. It has been established that the magnetite content of no more than 10% is optimal for obtaining a material with radio-absorbing properties. A porous glass composite with an average pore size of 1.2 mm, containing 10% magnetite, has an absorption coefficient of electromagnetic radiation in the high-frequency range (120–250 GHz) on average 10% higher compared to a composite without an additive.
