Russia is going to ban the sale of strong alcohol in plastic

The State Duma may adopt a bill to ban the sale of alcohol containing more than 28 percent ethyl alcohol in plastic.

On Tuesday, February 15, the State Duma may adopt a bill “On Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation”, according to which it is proposed to introduce a fine for the production and sale of alcoholic products containing more than 28% ethyl alcohol in plastic packaging, Izvestia writes.

At the same time, containers no larger than 50 ml and imported alcohol will become exceptions.

Officials who violate this requirement will be fined from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles with or without confiscation of the items of the administrative offense, the newspaper reports. Legal entities of organizations for this violation will be fined in the amount of 300 thousand to 500 thousand rubles with or without confiscation.

The authors of the corresponding initiative are Sergei Ryabukhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Financial Markets of the Federation Council, Andrei Epishin, Deputy Chairman of the same Committee, and Senator Akhmat Salpagarov.

The profile committee of the State Duma on state construction and legislation told the publication that the committee supported the bill and it was submitted for consideration by parliament.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to introduce mandatory labeling of beer in specialized packaging (not for sale to end consumers) from September 1, 2022, and for drinks in other types of packaging - from December 1 of this year.
