Broken glass is used to mark a third of Russian roads.
A third of Russian roads may be marked with glass waste. This was reported by the Russian Environmental Operator (REO), the Izvestia newspaper reports.
REO said that cullet is used in the production of microglass beads (MSB), which become a material in specialized paints for reflective road markings. Almost 600 thousand kilometers of Russian roads can receive such markings, the report says.
According to the general director of REO Denis Butsaev, microglass beads are made from cullet or glass melt. Thanks to the MSH, the markings are clearly visible at night and during rain; the light from the headlights is reflected from the markings. If ordinary horizontal markings are not visible at night without powerful street lighting, then the presence of MSH on the surface of the markings ensures its visibility, he noted.
