An environmental laboratory for the processing of plastic, glass and organics officially opened on October 26, 2019 at Olkhon under the Clean Shores project. According to the Give the Planet Life charity foundation, its goal is to create an economic model on the island so that the waste produced here will be recycled to the maximum right there. The raw materials obtained from this are planned to be reused, for example, for construction, manufacture of souvenirs, etc.
Heineken Breweries LLC acquired equipment for an environmental laboratory. They installed it on the basis of the estate of Nikita Bencharov, where it entered into a single complex with a local vermifer farm for processing organics. The third partner of the eco-laboratory is Semyon Mayor, who previously established a network of containers for separate collection of recyclables at Olkhon (with the support of the Clean Shores of Lake Baikal project). The new project was supported by the Khuzhir administration; a number of local institutions were invited to join it.
Now there is a small factory (eco-laboratory) on the island, which can process, for example, 8 tons of glass in three days.
