The waste processing complex in Tomsk will allow processing 100% of MSW. According to the press service of the regional administration, the commissioning of the Siberia complex will allow processing 230,000 tons of MSW annually.
It is specified that in 2024 a waste processing complex called "Siberia" will be built in the city of Tomsk. This complex, which will process municipal solid waste (MSW), will process 100% of MSW generated by residents of Tomsk, Tomsk region and Seversk, which make up 88.5% of the total MSW in the region.
According to Konstantin Sobolevsky, Chief Engineer of Tomsk Regional Concession Company LLC, putting the Siberia complex into operation will allow processing 230,000 tons of MSW annually. More than 50% of the useful material obtained as a result of processing will be sent to processing plants in Russia, and about 40% will be used for the production of technical soil. The Sibir complex will perform MSW pre-treatment, making the waste environmentally friendly both for processing and for transfer to the landfill.
Such results in the processing of MSW into useful raw materials exceed the current indicators of the region by almost 100 times. Statistics published by the administration of the Tomsk region in July this year show that regional operators collected 259 thousand tons of household waste from residents in 2022. However, only 21.9 thousand tons of them were processed at the semi-automatic waste sorting complex in Seversk, and only 1,300 tons were sent for recycling, which is only 0.5% of the total amount of garbage collected.
The Siberia complex will be equipped with high-tech equipment that automatically recognizes and selects useful fractions, such as glass, cardboard, paper, polyethylene, PET, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This recyclable material will be sent to Russian processing plants. Approximately 40% of the waste, mainly of organic origin, will be used for the production of industrial soil. The bulk material obtained from them can be used for the reclamation of landfills, use in the construction industry and agriculture.
For the production of technical soil, the complex will include a special area where solid biogenic municipal waste will be processed by aerobic fermentation.
