A large shipment of glass waste from the Murmansk Ecotechnopark has been sent for recycling

Twenty-seven tons of glass waste have been shipped from the Murmansk Region to a glass recycling center in St. Petersburg. This is the first large shipment of recyclable material in 2026. A week later, another 30 tons are planned to be sent to another specialized facility in the Leningrad Region.

Although transporting such volumes of glass is costly, recycling this type of recyclable material is economically viable.

Demand for cullet in Russia has remained high since last year. It is used in glass production and to make microscopic glass beads, which are added to road paints to improve reflectivity. The majority of this waste is used in the production of building materials: thermal insulation, silicate adhesives, concrete additives, as well as composite and glass-ceramic panels and tiles.

It is important that, within the framework of the "Live in the North!" strategic plan, this recycling program is being implemented. The Housing and Utilities Department is focusing on solid municipal waste management. Renovation of container sites is planned for the next five years, which should facilitate the further development of the solid municipal waste management system.
