China reverses downward trend in building materials production

The Chinese authorities registered positive growth in the production of building materials in the first three quarters of 2020, Xinhua reported on November 8.

Production increased by 0.7% year-on-year during the period, reversing the downward trend, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Building materials prices rose 0.05% year-on-year in the first three quarters, with cement prices declining 3.3% and flat glass prices declining 6.9%.

Profit for the building materials sector for the period decreased by 0.9% year on year.

In September alone, the sector's overall profit rose 16.4% year on year, up 5.4% over August 2020.
