In December 2023, glass shipments by rail to the Russian market (domestic deliveries + imports) amounted to 3.1 million square meters. m, which is 15.7% more than in December 2022.
At the end of 2023, the supply volume reached 39.5 million sq. m. m, which is 8.1% more than in 2022.
In fact, the market recovered after a significant drawdown in 2022, when consumption of flat glass decreased by 18.9%, including supplies by rail - by 9.9%.
However, glass shipment volumes by rail still have not reached the 2021 levels of 40.7 million square meters. m.
A decrease in glass shipments by rail in 2023 occurred in two districts of the Russian Federation:
• Southern Federal District -22.2%;
• Far Eastern Federal District -11.2%.
Glass shipments by rail in 2023 increased in the following districts of the Russian Federation:
• North Caucasian Federal District +71.7%;
• Northwestern Federal District +38.0%;
• Siberian Federal District +15.4%;
• Ural Federal District +5.2%;
• Central Federal District +3.8%;
• Volga Federal District +0.4%.
For comparison: the dynamics of railway glass shipments in the first 10 months of 2023 amounted to plus 5.9%, and the dynamics of the entire glass market – plus 1.4%. The share of railway glass supplies to the Russian market in total consumption during this period amounted to 21.7%.
