Bryansk products — successful import substitution

At a meeting with members of the Government held last week by the President of Russia, the Minister of Industry and the Chairman of the State Council Commission on Industry cited products manufactured in the Bryansk Region as an example of successful import substitution. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov said that the manufacturing sector of industry continues to maintain high growth rates, Bryansk Today reports.

"We have good results in the medical industry - almost plus 17 percent in the first half of this year," the Minister reported to the President. In our region, the production of medicines and materials used for medical purposes and veterinary medicine jumped by 53% over the same period.

The Minister mentioned the production of diesel locomotives, tracked asphalt pavers, front-end loaders, graders - all of these are products of Bryansk enterprises.

"The Bryansk manufacturing industry demonstrates excellent results not only in the areas named by the minister," comments the chairman of the Public Chamber of the Bryansk Region, economist Valery Rodomanov, "thus, if the production of machine tools, machines and equipment for processing metals and other hard materials on average in Russia has slightly sagged, then we have growth of 12%. The average Russian result for the production of glass and glass products is minus 3%, ours is plus 36%.

There are industries in which the half-year growth not only exceeds the national average, but also demonstrates a good breakthrough. Thus, the production of electrical equipment, textiles, primary processing of steel products, finishing of fabrics and textiles has more than doubled. The production of chemical fibers has grown almost fivefold, and cement, lime and gypsum - more than 10 times."
