Bashkir Soda Company (BSK) launched titanium dioxide production at the Krymsky Titan plant in Armyansk after four months of inactivity, providing technical and financial support. The process was set up by decision of the Russian government, the company's press service told reporters on Monday.
"After four months of inactivity, the only plant in Russia for the production of pigment-quality titanium dioxide, Crimean Titanium, resumed operation. The new life of the enterprise became possible thanks to the decision of the Federal Government, according to which Bashkir Soda Company JSC (BSK) took over the technical, technological and financial support," the statement said.
A five-year work plan has been developed for the enterprise with an increase in titanium dioxide production up to 120 thousand tons per year, which is enough to supply the Russian market. “The demand of the domestic industry for this chemical compound is growing from year to year: pigment-quality titanium dioxide is in demand in the paint and varnish industry, in the production of paper, synthetic fibers and plastics. By the end of 2021, more than 70% of titanium dioxide was imported to Russia from the EU and the USA. After the imposition of sanctions and the rupture of supply chains, many enterprises of the Russian Federation have already felt a shortage of titanium dioxide," the press service added.
According to BSC, the enterprise is the largest producer of pigment-quality titanium dioxide in Eastern Europe, it has two workshops. The mineral fertilizer ammophos, aluminum sulphate, liquid glass are also produced here. "Crimean Titan" is located in the city of Armyansk.
