Liquid glass

Liquid glass is a demanded product that has gained popularity due to a set of universal qualities. We will tell you where and how silicate solutions are used.

Liquid glass, which is often denoted by the abbreviation ZhS, is an irreplaceable consumable in industry and construction. Last but not least, its popularity is associated with ease of use and how much liquid glass costs on the market.

An alkaline solution of silicates, which is water glass, has many different properties.

Bonding properties are valued in the construction and oil and gas industries, metal, glass and paper / cardboard industries. As a binder, liquid glass is applied to welding electrodes; it is also an integral component of ceramic fluxes.

In metallurgy, silicates are used for the manufacture of foundry compounds and molds. The heat resistance of the product plays an important role here.

Builders use liquid glass to increase the strength of concrete, namely its resistance to moisture, fire and acids. They also fill unstable soils with silicates to build a reliable foundation.

Oil workers are turning to silicate solutions to reinforce steep wells and prevent them from being washed out by water.

Liquid glass is able to protect materials from corrosion, since after drying it forms a thin, water-repellent film.

In the water treatment and treatment industry, silicates help soften water by contacting metals with the release of insoluble silicate. This technique is important in the manufacture of detergents for household use, as well as during the production of pulp.

When creating detergents, the increased alkalinity of water glass promotes saponification of fats and oils, which leads to the appearance of salts of fatty acids. In addition, silicates are a budget soap filler.

In the field of industrial glass production, silicate solutions are also not enough - liquid glass removes the undesirable shade of quartz, helps to etch sheet glass and is used for gluing.

The classic way of using liquid glass is to clog porous materials, which increases their durability and resistance to external destructive influences - atmospheric or chemical. So the material acquires water resistance, fire resistance and additional strength.

Four types of silicates are produced:

  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Potassium sodium
  • Sodium-potassium

The choice of a specific type of liquid glass depends on the industry and the specific tasks of production or construction.
