Exhibition Facets. On the 270th Anniversary of the Gus Crystal Factory

From June 2 to October 1, 2026, the Maltsov Crystal Museum in Gus-Khrustalny will host an exhibition entitled "Facets. On the 270th Anniversary of the Gus Crystal Factory."

Russian crystal is traditionally associated with Gus-Khrustalny and the Maltsov family of glassmakers. Founded in 1756 by merchant Akim Maltsov, the Gus Crystal Factory produced crystal from its very first years, first with a potash base, then with a lead base.

Lead crystal became fashionable in Russia in the late 18th century. Transparent, elegant, and sparkling with sparkles on its facets, crystal became firmly established in everyday life and was widely used for table settings.

The collection of crystal works by Gus-Khrustalny masters is part of the history of the development of a distinctive school of artistic glass, which evolved from a compilation of forms and cutting techniques from European manufacturers in the first quarter of the 19th century to the creation of contemporary original works.
