The volume of municipal solid waste (MSW) sent for recycling reached 60% in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which will soon completely abandon the use of one of the city landfills. This was in an interview with TASS the head of the region Vladimir Ilyukhin.

"About 60% of the waste is now sent for recycling. This is plastic, polyethylene, paper, metal, glass, food waste (composted into the industrial soil). All plastic, glass and food waste, rags are processed on site. The remaining waste fractions are exported to the mainland." , - he said.

The head of the region explained that the city introduced a new logistic scheme for waste management, launched the second line for sorting waste from the waste recycling plant, "so that since August of this year, all solid municipal waste generated in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky goes through sorting."

According to the governor, now the city is ready to abandon the use of a landfill, which has been exploited since 1977, annually 185 thousand cubic meters were placed on it. m of waste - about 30% of the total MSW of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. “Next year, the relevant regional department, regional operator and city authorities will closely deal with the issue of reclamation of this garbage site,” Ilyukhin noted.

“As for the region as a whole, in the territorial scheme for waste management, we provided for the creation of waste sorting and processing facilities in large municipal centers: Ossor, Palan, Tigil, Milkovo, Ust-Bolsheretsk, Ust-Kamchatsk, in the village of Vulkanny for Elizovsky district, "he added.
