In Novosibirsk will develop the infrastructure for the reception of glass containers

In Novosibirsk, containers for used glass products began to appear at sites for the collection of municipal solid waste. So far, there are not many of them, but the authorities plan to develop the infrastructure for receiving and processing glass.

According to the vice-governor of the Novosibirsk region Sergey Semka, the Siberian Glass enterprise, together with the new regional operator for the treatment of MSW (since February 2023, these functions have been performed by the MUP Spetsavtokhozyaystvo), plans to develop the use of cullet as a recyclable material.

Andrey Zykov, the director of MUP, explained that the previous reoperator had not concluded contracts with contractors for the removal of separately collected waste. At "Spetsavtokhozyaystvo" they are signed and the service is already being rendered. For this, there is the necessary fleet of vehicles - 140 vehicles are on the line, ten remain in reserve.

- No increase in capacity is planned - sorting lines are able to process more than 100 thousand tons of waste per year, and ten reserve machines will cover the needs of any district of the city, - Andrey Zykov noted.

The formation of the glass waste collection infrastructure for their involvement in industrial circulation is provided for by a tripartite agreement signed in 2021, the participants of which were one of the largest brewing companies in Russia (the plant operates, among other things, in Novosibirsk), Sibsteklo and the government of the Novosibirsk region.

The agreement provides for glass collection at more than 130 HoReCa enterprises in the region. More than 600 tons of glass waste were disposed of within the framework of the project at Sibstekle. At the same time, the plant is ready to process up to 200 thousand tons per year - in March 2023, the first stage of the technological complex for processing cullet was put into operation there. The total investment in the project amounted to about 200 million rubles.

The country's average indicator of the use of cullet in production is at the level of ten percent, at "Sibstekle" - 30-40 percent. The task of the next two years is to increase the figure to 60-80 percent. As noted by Anton Mor, general director of Sibstekla, it is technologically more difficult to produce glass containers without cullet, its use improves product quality, and also saves natural resources: one ton of glass containers replaces 1.2 tons of mineral components. Every ten percent of recycled materials reduces energy consumption by three percent and, as a result, the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmospheric air. With a decrease in energy consumption, the service life of glass melting furnaces is extended from 7-10 to 12-15 years.

Among the tasks set by the parties to the agreement is to reduce the weight of the finished glass product. To date, the specialists of the glass factory have developed design solutions and achieved a reduction in the weight of the bottle from 265 to a record 235 grams, while maintaining the displacement (0.45 liters). The plans to bring the weight to 230 grams. By 2025, the brewing company intends to completely switch to recycled packaging. The ultra-light bottle is also more environmentally friendly.

In the new ultra-light packaging, products will be manufactured not only in Novosibirsk, but also in Omsk and Vladivostok.
