The authorities of the republic announced their intention to revive the glass cluster in the region. However, RD has a lot of problems that hinder the development of this type of production.
The first glass factory of the republic appeared in the village of Dagestanskie Ogni, located not far from Derbent, back in 1914. And in 1922, the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR decided to build a new mechanized production of glass and bottles in the region. Until the 1990s, it was a successful enterprise supplying products to many regions of the country.
The collapse of the USSR dealt a severe blow to the plant. Sales markets turned out to be in different states, production practically stopped. The new management of the company, which became known as "Dagestan Glass Tara", in the mid-2000s managed to attract investors and technically re-equip the enterprise. Now it has its own network of distributors both in Russia and in the post-Soviet countries. The production reached 300 million conventional units of production per year, the enterprise, which is actually a city-forming one, employs about 600 people.
The problem, according to the head of the company Patakhudin Magomedov, was the delivery of sand - the main raw material for glass production. It is brought to the plant from Belarus, and transportation is sometimes more expensive than the sand itself.
There is another large industrial enterprise in Dagestan - the Caspian sheet glass plant - built by private investors. In 2015, it reached its full capacity - 600 tons of products per day. But then the company started having financial problems. In 2019, the company was declared bankrupt, and its property was put up for auction several times.
In April of this year, the Salavatsteklo company acquired the KZLS property complex at an auction. A new enterprise was established - Salavatsteklo Caspiy LLC. The authorities of Dagestan have already promised to provide all kinds of support to the plant. At a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Batyr Emeyev, the chairman of the board of directors of the company Radik Sultanov said that the company would be engaged in the production of hard-coated glass - it is especially in demand in construction and furniture production. In addition, the plans are to expand the assortment. In 2023, a line for applying various coatings to flat glass should appear.
Prospects for the development of the enterprise were also discussed with the acting head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. At the meeting, Sultanov said that the new company produced products worth 472 million rubles in a short period.
- All technological processes are being tested so that they comply with the standards. During the year we will form the company's strategy. We already understand what needs to be done, - said Sultanov.
The management of the new enterprise also announced the need for its own quartz sand deposit. So far, raw materials are being delivered to the plant from outside the republic.
Dagestan has already announced that the first stage in the creation of a glass cluster will be the construction of a mining and processing plant. The project was initiated by one of the private companies, which was supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic. It includes the opening of a GKO with a capacity of one thousand tons per day in the Kumtorkala region, where they will be engaged in sand enrichment. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade RD, the explored reserves of quartz sand in the republic amount to 114 million tons. The current demand of regional enterprises in it is about 500 tons per day, that is, enriched raw materials can be supplied to other regions of the country.
According to the department, the implementation of this project will ensure the raw material independence of the glass industry enterprises of the republic and will reduce the cost of delivery of quartz sand. All this will affect the cost and competitiveness of products manufactured in the region.
According to Vasily Cherkashin, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Chief Researcher at the Institute of Geology, DPRC RAS, Dagestan quartz sand does not fully correspond to the technical conditions of glass production. To use it, you need to subject the raw material to a little processing, but in this case you will not have to import it from other regions. In addition, there are good dolomite deposits in the republic, which Dagestan can provide for many years not only by its own enterprises, but also by factories of other regions of the country.
