AI-complex for detecting defects in glass created in Chelyabinsk

Researchers have developed the first software product in Russia that uses artificial intelligence to detect defects in glass products.

According to Vladimir Surin, senior lecturer at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Programming at South Ural State University (SUSU), this solution is intended for industrial use; it can be used to assess the quality of glass products directly on the conveyor.

The system has already been successfully tested at one of the factories in the Chelyabinsk region. Scientists have trained it to recognize visible defects, even if they are only a few millimeters in size. They managed to cope with this task using a neural network algorithm. It is expected that the new technology will be introduced into mass production by 2028.
