The Swiss group Glas Trösch decided to build a state-of-the-art flat glass plant in Lommel (Belgium).
Lommel will have a new plant for the production of sheet glass, which is used in construction and for solar panels. This is a new branch of the Swiss group Glas Trösch. The factory itself can employ 300 people. Construction on the former Philips site is due to begin next year.
The Swiss group Glas Trösch is building a new plant to meet the growing demand for modern double-glazed windows in Europe. The proximity of sand pits, the multimodal logistics network and the availability of suitable industrial sites and well-trained personnel make Lommel an ideal location for production.
The flat glass plant in Lommel can employ 300 people, but indirectly the plant will also create another 1,000 jobs throughout the region, including for suppliers and transport companies. Glas Trösch also strengthens Lommel's position as a city of glass.
In December, it was announced that the Turkish group Ciner would invest 500 million euros in a new glass bottle plant in Lommel. This plant will be launched in 2025 and will create 500 direct and another 500 indirect jobs.
