Tugansk mining and processing plant «Ilmenite» started working in the Tomsk region

The production of zirconium, titanium and rutile-leucoxene concentrates has begun at the Tugansk mining and processing plant Ilmenite (TGOK Ilmenite) in the Tomsk region. This was announced on Monday by the press service of JSC Atomredmetzoloto (ARMZ, the mining division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom).

ARMZ Uranium Holding <…> and Izurium Investment Fund <…> completed the construction of the Ilmenite Ore Mining and Processing Plant <…> in the Tomsk Region. rutile-leucoxene concentrates, "ARMZ said in a statement. According to Andrey Kabanov, General Director of Tuganskiy GOK Ilmenit JSC, the enterprise will soon reach the design capacity of processing 575 thousand tons of ore sands per year.

The construction of the Tugan GOK was financed by the main shareholder - the Izurium investment fund. Since 2021, United Uranium Enterprises LLC (OUP LLC, part of the ARMZ management loop) joined the project, which acquired a stake in Ilmenit TGOK in the amount of 25% of the authorized capital minus one share. The deal was concluded with the right to further increase the share of ownership in the authorized capital of Ilmenit to a controlling one.

About Tugan deposit

The Tugan deposit is the first-born of the commercial development of titanium-zirconium placers in Russia. The raw material base of the deposit ensures the operation of the GOK for a period of about 80 years. Currently, the development of the Yuzhno-Aleksandrovsky area of the Tugan field is underway. As noted in the message of the press service of ARMZ, if the demand for products is confirmed, it is possible to create additional stages within the framework of the development of the Kuskovo-Shiryaevsky area in order to increase the production capacity to 6.9 million tons of ore sands per year.

The products of TGOK Ilmenite will be directed, first of all, to meet the needs of the most important enterprises of the high-tech industry in Russia: the manufacturer of zirconium casings for nuclear fuel Chepetsk Mechanical Plant JSC (Rosatom enterprise, Glazov, Udmurt Republic) and the manufacturer of titanium metal and titanium alloys - corporation "VSMPO-AVISMA". In addition, consumers of rare metal concentrates will be industrial enterprises in Russia for the production of titanium dioxide, ferroalloys, welding electrodes, refractory materials, metallic zircon, and ceramics. Quartz sand of various types and classes will be used for the glass and foundry industries, for the production of dry building mixtures, as fillers for sandboxes in railway locomotives, filters for water purification.

"The potential of Tugan GOK will allow the company to take the position of one of the largest suppliers of titanium and zircon concentrates in the Russian market, providing up to 100% of consumption for zirconium and up to 15-20% for ilmenite concentrates when all stages of the factory are launched. The enterprise will also become the largest supplier of glassworks in Siberia.
