The technology for the production of extra-strong ceramics was created in Rostec

The engineers of the Shvabe holding of the Rostec State Corporation have developed a technology for creating quartz ceramics using a special impregnation of the material. It is not exposed to aggressive environment, which allows to significantly expand the scope of its application - from use as refractories for various purposes, including for the production of single-crystal silicon, to the creation of molds for metal casting.

Among the advantages of advanced quartz ceramics is high heat resistance. The material does not react with hot glass or metal, it is resistant to other types of aggressive environments. This allows it to be used as an insulator in thermal units, in the manufacture of molds for metal casting and crucibles for the production of single-crystal silicon.

Already now at the enterprise-developer - in NPO GOI them. S.I. Vavilov, preparatory work is being carried out on the manufacture of refractory containers from extra-strong ceramics, with the help of which optical glass is brewed in industry.

“This method of creating quartz ceramics makes it possible to increase the strength of products by more than 30%. It is economical and does not require complex technological equipment. During the manufacturing process, the porous ceramic surface is treated with a special colloidal composition that interacts with the composition of the material and additionally binds its particles. The obtained characteristics make it possible to use the new material in those industries where long-term resistance to high temperatures and low reactivity with contact media and materials are required - these are glassmaking, metallurgy and microelectronics," said the head of the priority technological area for optoelectronics and photonics technologies at Shvab » Sergei Popov.
