Sibstekl has been assigned an ESG index

Dear colleagues, we are publishing news about a member of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia, Siberian Glass LLC (“Sibsteklo”):

Sibirskoye Steklo LLC (Sibsteklo, the largest manufacturer of glass containers outside the Urals, an asset of RATM Holding) became the only glass industry enterprise included in the ESG index of Russian business, prepared by RBC and the NKR rating agency.

The final list brought together 114 participants, including companies representing the financial sector, mining, metallurgical, chemical industries, agro-industrial complex, trade and warehouse, energy, transport, telecommunications and IT sectors. The ranking is based on an assessment of their ESG profile.

The methodology was adjusted after the release of the first Index in 2022. To calculate the index, we used data obtained as a result of the survey, taking into account industry specifics. The structure of the questionnaire and the data set were brought as close as possible to the ESG data book format, which is becoming an industry standard.

The organizers note that within the framework of the environmental component, the gap between the average and maximum possible indicators relative to last year has decreased significantly. They explain this improvement, among other things, by an increase in the sample of large companies with broad expertise in this area, as well as a more thorough approach to the disclosure and provision of information.

“By taking part in the rankings of RBC and NKR, Sibsteklo had the opportunity to compare its work with the best ESG practices,” comments Eduard Taran, president of RATM Holding. “By creating a business model based on the principle of rational environmental management, ensuring sustainable economic growth while reducing the consumption of primary material resources, the plant not only demonstrates impressive production results, but also contributes to solving environmental problems. Thanks to the availability of recycling and processing capacities, experience in managing cyclical processes, and the use of modern technologies, Sibsteklo launches drivers for the development of a circular economy in the regions, reducing the industrial burden on the environment.

Currently, the share of glass waste in the production of brown containers (50% in the production structure) has reached 45%. The circle of external stakeholders has expanded due to the involvement of the waste management system regulator PPK Russian Ecological Operator, financial institutions investing in the development of environmental and economic projects, and executive authorities in the constituent entities of the Federation interested in achieving the target indicators of the Ecology national project.
