"Sibsteklo" was among the finalists of the corporate project competition "It's about the people"

Dear colleagues, we are publishing news about a member of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia, Siberian Glass LLC (“Sibsteklo”):

The shortlist of the XVI All-Russian competition of corporate projects “It’s about people: companies investing in the future” (formerly People Investor) in the category “Environmental efficiency” included the project of Siberian Glass LLC (“Sibsteklo”, the largest manufacturer of glass packaging outside the Urals, asset of RATM Holding) “Reducing the environmental load by increasing the use of glass waste and producing a super-light bottle.”

This year, 98 companies submitted applications for the competition, presenting 146 projects, 40 of which reached the finals based on the results of online voting. The next stage will be their in-person defense before the jury - for the first time in the format of open hearings. Based on the results of the meetings, the winners of 2023 will be determined.

Competition for Sibstekl will include PJSC Samolet Group of Companies, the retail chain Magnit, PJSC EN+ GROUP and LLC BOIRON.

“The experts made objective conclusions about the value created by the glass factory for customers and suppliers, regional authorities, and local communities,” comments Eduard Taran, president of RATM Holding. – “Sibstekl” managed to show the industry specifics of implementing the ESG agenda through the prism of the competition criteria. For an enterprise, participation in it is an opportunity to generalize and systematize its experience in the field of sustainable development, allowing it to achieve a balance of interests of business, society and the state.

Let us remind you that in accordance with the principle of rational environmental management, Sibstekl makes container glass lighter using NNPB technology. In collaboration with the largest brewing company AB InBev Efes, the weight of the bottle was reduced from 265 to a record 235 grams, maintaining the displacement and ensuring that the glass product complies with GOST - all requirements for geometry, light transmission, resistance to hydrostatic pressure, etc.: design solutions were developed by Sibstekla specialists . By using these containers, customers reduce their carbon footprint in the glass packaging supply chain by 10% per unit. In turn, Sibsteklo increases productivity without increasing the consumption of raw materials and energy (one ton of glass melt can make 3,773 bottles weighing 265 grams, or 4,255 super-light 235-gram bottles - 13% more). On the contrary, the company strives to optimize the consumption of material resources by changing the ratio of natural components and glass waste in the composition of the glass melting mixture in favor of the latter. Thus, the plant reduces the energy intensity of production processes, and as a result, the industrial load on the environment. The involvement of cullet in economic circulation slows down the rate of depletion of mineral reserves, as well as the accumulation of useful “garbage” fractions at MSW landfills. In order to form sustainable waste collection algorithms, agreements have been concluded with regional executive authorities, which will contribute to the achievement of key indicators of the Ecology national project. In addition, a strategic agreement was signed with the Russian Ecological Operator PPK on cooperation within the framework of the development of an eco-industrial park in the Novosibirsk region. Already today, the plant uses up to 45% of glass waste in the production of brown containers (which is approximately 50% in the structure of product output), with plans to increase their share to 80% in 2024.

The comprehensive project “It's About the People” (formerly People Investor), organized by the Association of Managers, combines a competition for the best practices of ESG and corporate social responsibility, as well as a forum where top expert speakers discuss directions for implementing a responsible approach to business.
