Shvabe is increasing the production of oxygen-free glass

The production of infrared optical glasses of a special composition is being developed by the research and production site of the Shvabe Holding in St. Petersburg. The products are manufactured for the needs of the Russian industry, including those related to the creation of medical and technical thermal imagers, as well as biological and environmental monitoring systems.

In comparison with oxide glass, oxygen-free - it is synthesized without oxygen access. Such a product is characterized by high transparency in the infrared (IR) region of the spectrum and is used in thermal imaging devices. This direction, as part of the Holding, is being developed by the Scientific and Production Association “State Optical Institute named after V.I. SI Vavilov ”(NPO GOI named after SI Vavilov). The Institute conducts laboratory production and production of three types of such glass, operating in the ranges - 0.7-9.0 microns, 1.5-17.0 microns, 1.0-15.5 microns.

“Today the demand for oxygen-free glass in Russia is growing, and the country's annual demand for this material is estimated at about 100 kg. Manufacturers specializing in the production of thermal imaging equipment previously mainly purchased foreign glass. Since 2019, our capacities have been focused on fully covering the needs of the Russian market for oxygen-free glass and import substitution. Production volumes are steadily growing, the direction is developing. Until the end of 2021, we are implementing a number of new supplies, ”said General Director of NPO GOI im. S. I. Vavilov Konstantin Dukelsky.

Oxygen-free glass NPO GOI im. SI Vavilov is distinguished by a large range of changes in optical properties, including the dispersion coefficient - this is its main competitive advantage over counterparts from Belgian, German, American and other manufacturers.
