HAPPY RUSSIAN SCIENCE DAY!

Dear friends, colleagues!

February 8 is the annual Day of Russian Science, which was established by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of June 7, 1999, "considering the outstanding role of domestic science in the development of the state and society, following historical traditions and in commemoration of the 275th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences in Russia."

On February 8, 1724, by the Decree of Peter I, the Academy of Sciences was created, designed to become the center for the development of domestic science and education, as well as the dissemination of knowledge in Russia.

On February 8, 2025, the Russian Academy of Sciences turned 301 years old!

Russian science has given the world many great names and discoveries. One of which was the brilliant Russian scientist - Mikhail Lomonosov, a luminary of world science showed the role and importance of people who are able to give the world glass!

Mikhail Lomonosov was the creator of the chemical production of glaze, glass, porcelain. He developed the technology and formula for colored glass - smalt (pieces of a homogeneous opaque mixture of glass and metal oxides), which he used to create mosaic paintings.

Nowadays, interest in studying the properties of this material, born of earth and fire, does not wane! Looking to the future, researchers hope to make a significant breakthrough by using glass to neutralize nuclear waste, create safe batteries and design biomedical implants. Engineers are developing ingenious touch screens, chameleon glass, and shatterproof glass.
