Russian imports of Belarusian products grew by almost 60%

A meeting of a high-level group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State was held in Moscow. The Russian part of the delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk, the Belarusian part - by the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoy. The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia was represented at the event by Deputy Minister Dmitry Volvach. This was reported on the website of the department.

The participants of the meeting discussed topical issues of cooperation in the supply of timber, joint projects in the industrial sector, increasing the supply of glass products and medical products, progress achieved in terms of access to government orders and purchases.

“Russia and Belarus continue to successfully resist external illegal sanctions and increase the capacity of their own import-substituting industries,” Dmitry Volvach emphasized during his speech. “In the first quarter of 2023, Russian-Belarusian trade increased by 18.7%, and Russian imports of Belarusian products - by 57.9%.”

The deputy head of the department also spoke about the results of the liberalization of the mechanisms for the supply of Belarusian timber through the territory of Russia.

In pursuance of the order of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Russian side extended until the end of 2023 an experiment on the use of navigation seals for Belarusian timber placed under the customs procedure for export to third countries.

“Mechanisms for the supply of Belarusian timber, operating under Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 2552 and a pilot project with seals, meet all the necessary requirements for protecting the Russian domestic market and allow conscientious companies to transport their products to consumers in third countries without any complaints from our control and supervisory bodies," the deputy minister said.

Also during the meeting, issues of ensuring mutual unhindered supplies of various types of products were discussed. Special attention was paid to issues of humanitarian cooperation. The parties discussed common approaches to the development and coordination of the programs of the Union State in the field of healthcare. Agreements were also reached on the implementation of the project for the restoration and reconstruction of the Brest Fortress, which will be worked out and approved by the corresponding project of the Union State by the end of this year.

The next meeting of the high-level group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State will be held in the third quarter of 2023.
