Russia is in the top ten for the Turkish packaging market by import and export

Aslihan Arikan, Secretary General of the Association of the Turkish Packaging Industry ASD, spoke on June 06, 2023 at the expert and analytical session "The Impact of Economic and Political Factors on the Russian Packaging Industry" of the Forum of Packaging Producers and Consumers, which took place as part of the business program of the exhibition RosUpack 2023. Her presentation was held via videoconference. Aslihan Arikan spoke about the state and trends of the Turkish packaging industry. The ASD Association includes 230 companies.

In the structure of the Turkish packaging market, the share of plastic packaging is 37% (the largest segment). It is followed by corrugated packaging - 27%. The share of glass containers is 18%. These are the top three market segments.

According to Aslihan Arikan, currently 60% of products in Turkey are packed in domestic packaging. The per capita consumption of packaging in the country is $325. In the export of Turkish packaging, the Russian market is in the top ten and is in eighth place. The first three places are occupied by Britain, Germany and Iraq. Plastic packaging, big bags, labels, glass containers, wooden, steel, aluminum packaging, as well as corrugated cardboard are exported to Russia (data for 2022).

In turn, Turkey also imports packaging from Russia, which ranks seventh in the top ten export countries. The first three places are occupied by Germany, China and Italy. Plastic packaging, labels, glass containers, steel and aluminum packaging, kraft paper, and cardboard are exported from Russia to Turkey.

Among the main trends in the modern packaging industry in Turkey, Aslihan Arikan named material savings, a circular economy, mono-material packaging, environmentally friendly materials containing recycled raw materials.
