The development of economic cooperation with Japan will affect the Nizhny Novgorod region

Nizhny Novgorod projects were presented at the 16th joint meeting of the Russian-Japanese and Japanese-Russian Economic Cooperation Committees, held in Moscow at The Ritz-Carlton Moscow on February 18, 2020.

More than 250 people took part in the event organized by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the National Coordinating Center for the Development of Economic Relations with the Asia-Pacific Region, and the Federation of Economic Organizations of Japan (Keidanren): representatives of major Japanese corporations, banks, insurance companies, regional governments and the government of the Russian Federation.

The meeting hosted a business discussion of Russian-Japanese economic relations and opportunities for improving the business climate.

Issues of Russian-Japanese cooperation were examined in order to modernize the Russian economy, in particular, the implementation of the cooperation plan proposed by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The investment potential of the Nizhny Novgorod region at the meeting was presented by the Director General of the regional Development Corporation Timur Khalitov. The Japanese colleagues were presented, including the Research and Education Center and the special economic zone of the industrial-production type (SEZ).

The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin noted that the exchange of experience in the field of education is always important in cooperation with any countries.

- We presented to the colleagues of the REC. The accumulated ties of REC organizations participating now make the center international - these are 34 partner countries, about 160 projects. The REC includes four major institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, six universities of the Nizhny Novgorod region, leading scientific enterprises of Rosatom, large industrial enterprises of the region, the head of the region said.

According to Gleb Nikitin, six investment projects with Japanese capital totaling more than $ 470 million have been successfully implemented in the region to date (Daido Metal Rus, AGC Bor Glassworks, Trosifol, IVK 1 , "TRM", "Yazaki Volga. - approx.), Created about 3.5 thousand jobs.

- There are a lot of advanced companies in Japan, and we expect that the Nizhny Novgorod region will be interesting to them as a platform for their production. Colleagues expressed interest in locating their companies in our territories with preferential conditions that imply a maximum reduction in key tax rates and full provision of utilities, ”said Timur Khalitov, Director General of the Development Corporation.
