PPK REO and Sibsteklo agreed on joint projects in the field of glass recycling

Dear colleagues, we are publishing news about a member of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia LLC Siberian Glass (Sibsteklo):

An agreement on cooperation in the field of municipal solid waste management, including within the framework of investment projects aimed at creating facilities for the disposal of production and consumption waste, secondary resources, and the production of products from recycled materials in an eco-industrial park in the Novosibirsk Region, was signed by the General Director of the PIC Rossiyskiy environmental operator” Denis Butsaev and CEO of Siberian Glass LLC (an asset of RATM Holding) Anton Mor on the sidelines of the XXVI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

According to Denis Butsaev, the agreement guarantees the development of glass recycling and the production of cullet products. In eco-industrial parks (EPP) in the Siberian Federal District, it is planned to create a glass processing plant (SOF) with a capacity of 200 thousand tons, which will cover an additional 50% of the need for glass waste processing in the Siberian Federal District.

“Together with Sibsteklo, a potential resident of the park, we will prepare a roadmap that includes all activities within the framework of the project,” comments the head of the PPK REO. - In the future, the experience of creating SOF is planned to be replicated in other regions and federal districts.

According to Anton Mor, joining efforts with the PPK REO will help build a waste management system in Siberia, taking into account the experience and competence of the company's specialists. The principle of rational use of natural resources is integrated into the business model of Sibstekl. Since 2015, the plant has increased the share of glass containers made using lightening methods by 7.5 times - up to 75% of the total volume. Thanks to the design solutions proposed by Sibstekla, together with AB InBev Efes, the weight of a bottle for one of the drinks was reduced to a record value of 235 grams. As a result, the customer reduces CO2 emissions in the packaging supply chain by 10% per unit of product. Sibsteklo, on the other hand, produces more glass products from one ton of glass mass. At the same time, the use of primary resources is limited here: the share of glass waste (cullet) in the production of containers has grown to 40%, which makes it possible to reduce energy consumption, thereby reducing the technogenic impact on the environment, and slow down the rate of depletion of mineral reserves and the accumulation of MSW. This year, Sibstekle put into operation the first stage of a technological complex for processing cullet, with a capacity of 60 thousand tons of secondary raw materials per year. In addition, for the transportation of glassware, reusable pallets made of a polymer-sand mixture - plastic waste - began to be used. Sibsteklo is also tightening the requirements for suppliers of corrugated cardboard and industrial film - they must contain at least 30% recycled materials.

“All initiatives of Sibstekl with an environmental focus are not separated from the main business and, among other things, increase the commercial efficiency of the enterprise,” comments Eduard Taran, President of RATM Holding. - The implementation of the "green" agenda is related to industry specifics and is due to internal necessity, that is, it is not an additional expense item for the alleged growth of indicators for the sake of a line in the ratings of European agencies. We confirm our intention to invest in the development of recycling facilities, adhering to proven algorithms that ensure a stable positive trend in the involvement of waste in new technological cycles.

Also, the parties to the agreement discussed the possibility of providing support to Sibsteklu from the PIC REO in order to increase the use of prepared cullet in the production process.
