A company near Moscow will produce smart glass

The use of smart glass in construction will reduce the costs of air conditioning, heating and lighting by up to 40%, reduce peak network loads, and the cost of production will become almost half the price of foreign analogues.

The production of smart glasses using their own unique technology will be created by the SmartElectroGlass company, a resident of the Dubna special economic zone, the press service of the Ministry of Investments and Innovations of the Moscow Region said in a statement.

The release of innovative products is planned in 2021. The company is engaged in the development and manufacture of “smart” glass with electrically controlled light and heat transmission, as well as equipment for its production.

“Back in 2017, we developed a fundamentally new technology for producing smart glass, which is an electrochromic device based on two glasses with functional coatings interconnected by a layer of polymer gel electrolyte,” said Alexey Dmitriev, CEO of SmartElectroGlass LLC.

He added that the principle of its action is based on a reversible color change of the active layers under the influence of an electric current with a voltage of only 2-3 volts instead of 60-120. Moreover, energy is spent only on changing the degree of transparency. In a stationary state, electricity consumption does not occur.

According to Dmitriev, one of the advantages of smart glass is the ability to control the transmission of infrared radiation in the near region of the spectrum and its blocking in the far region. This allows you to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer, helping to save on heating and air conditioning. Also, the glass has increased strength and sound insulation and can be controlled remotely - using a tablet or smartphone.

“The Dubna nanocenter is one of the effective Moscow region platforms for launching technology startups like SmartElectroGlass,” said Vadim Khromov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Moscow Region Government.

He noted that the company received funds from the Rusnano infrastructure and educational programs fund for the implementation of the project, and the nanocenter provided the resident with premises and necessary laboratory equipment.

SmartElectroGlass specialists have already moved from small laboratory samples and prototypes of electrochromic glasses measuring 10 by 10 centimeters to scaling technology - glass samples reached 50 by 70 centimeters, and the development of the technology has entered the final stage.
