Print edition of the book: «International Year of Glass in Russia. Materials of scientific conference»

The Association "StekloSouz" of Russia has been a member of the International Commission on Glass (ICG) for more than ten years.

At the ICG Members' Congress in 2018, for the first time, a proposal was made to declare 2022 the "International Year of Glass".

The Association "StekloSouz" of Russia was a member of the organizing committee on this issue. "StekloSouz" made proposals, did a lot of work to make this important event for the global glass industry take place.

The World International Glass Commission, together with the Community of Glass Associations, including the GlassSoyuz Association of Russia and the International Committee of Glass Museums, have applied to the United Nations with a proposal to declare 2022 the International Year of Glass.

The International Year of Glass 2022 was approved at the session of the UN General Assembly on May 17-18, 2021.

On February 10-11, 2022, the inauguration of the International Year of Glass was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, in which representatives of Russia also took part. In our country, the opening ceremony of the Year of Glass was held on March 17 at the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" in St. Petersburg.

To hold the Year of Glass in Russia, an Organizing Committee was created, headed by Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Russian Chemical Society named after D. I. Mendeleev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aslan Tsivadze. The co-chairman of the organizing committee was the president of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute", Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Kovalchuk, the deputies were the chairman of the National Commission on Glass of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Shevchenko and Rector of SPbPU, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Rudskoy.

Osipov Viktor Ivanovich, President of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia, joined the Organizing Committee. At the Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Glass in Russia, he delivered a report: “The current state and development goals of the glass industry.

On November 22, 2022, the closing ceremony of the International Year of Glass in Russia took place. The event was held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The Ceremony was attended by heads of leading universities and research institutes of St. Petersburg.

Aslan Tsivadze, chairman of the organizing committee, spoke about the main events of the Year of Glass in Russia at the final event at the Polytechnic University. Key events include:

• October 3-7, 2022 – “Scientific school-conference for young scientists “Functional glasses and glassy materials: Synthesis. Structure. Properties". Venue: IHS RAS, St. Petersburg. Organizers: ISKh RAS together with the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia.

• November 17-18, 2022 - International Forum "Glass and Modern Technologies - XXI". Venue: Gus-Khrustalny. Organizers Association "StekloSouz" of Russia together with LLC NPC "Steklo-Gaz".

• International competition "Leader of the glass industry - 2022". Organizer: Association "StekloSouz" of Russia.

At the Closing Ceremony of the International Year of Glass in Russia, certificates of honor and gratitude were presented to the active organizers of the Year of Glass and the authors of the reports.

Within the framework of the Ceremony, a printed edition of the book was presented: “The International Year of Glass in Russia. Materials of the scientific conference. The book is published in two languages: Russian and English.

We publish some pages of the book. The entire book in electronic form will be published later.
