The volume of consumption of products in glass containers increased by 46 percent in the Moscow region during the New Year holidays

Residents of the Moscow Region during the New Year holidays (from January 1 to 8, 2023) increased the volume of consumption of products in glass containers by 46% compared to the same period in December 2022, such dynamics has been observed for the third year in a row, the press service of the Ministry of Housing and Communal economy of the region.

“In general, the volume of waste during the New Year holidays has traditionally increased by approximately 20%. To date, KPO Podmoskovye has sorted over 1.2 million tons of glass on a cumulative basis. The entire volume of containers is sent for recycling, from which secondary raw materials are made for the production of tiles, insulation, fiberglass, facing material and new glass products,” said Anton Velikhovskiy, Minister of Housing and Communal Services of the Moscow Region.

According to representatives of the EcoLine Group (KPO Vostok, KPO Neva, KPO Signalny), the largest growth in glass containers in January 2023 was recorded on January 6 and 7. The volume of green glass has more than tripled.

Glass is a completely recyclable material. Each jar or bottle can once again become a container for drinks, food, or turn into building materials. The use of recycled materials in the production of glass containers is very important, as it helps to significantly save raw materials (quartz sand, soda, limestone) and electricity.

As part of the national project "Ecology", since 2019 the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the Moscow Region has been implementing a waste management reform. Separate waste collection in the Moscow Region is implemented according to a two-container system, the principle of which is to separate waste at the accumulation stage into two components: useful secondary components suitable for reuse - “dry” (polymer waste, paper and cardboard, metal, glass, etc. .) and other waste - "mixed" (food and plant waste, other types of waste). Thus, there is no mixing and contamination of valuable components with food waste, and recyclables collected separately remain of a higher quality than mixed ones. Mixed waste is collected in gray bins, dry in blue.
