The Joint IEC and ISO Committee on Information Technology (ISO / IEC JTC 1) recently adopted a new organization as a possible submitter for the development and adoption of the standard - the Joint Development Fund (JDF), which offers a platform for the development of technical specifications.
Now JDF can offer ISO / IEC JTC 1 for consideration specifications developed on its platform as international standards. The first such document was the specification for an open circuit.
To become an open specification provider, an organization must meet a wide range of criteria. These criteria are used to ensure that the specification development process is neutral for all participants and includes industry-wide participation.
Once developed, the specification should constitute general industry consensus and be written in accordance with PAS editing standards.
Once approved as a specification provider, an organization may submit its specifications in ISO / IEC JTC 1 for approval by its members. The submission is voted on using the draft international standard and the final draft international standard approval procedures used for all ISO / IEC standards. This process ensures that the submitter of the specification is fully involved in the ISO / IEC approval process and that the final standard will not be different from the initial submission.
To date, more than 115 ISO / IEC standards have been approved using this simplified process.
