Thanks to participation in the national project “Labor Productivity,” an enterprise that produces products from recycled glass increased its output per employee by 24 percent in six months, and its assembly and cutting areas by 30 percent.
The introduction of lean technologies began with the production of architectural double-glazed windows - the longest production chain. The employees of SibGlass-Novosibirsk LLC were helped in this by experts from the Regional Competence Center of the Investment Development Agency of the Novosibirsk Region. According to the manager of the enterprise, Alexey Markus, during the diagnostics, the working group identified losses, the main share of which occurred in the assembly and hardening areas. Thanks to lean technologies, it was possible to reduce the number of defects and rework, organize order in the workshop and update the implemented 5C system at the workplace. “Now we are starting to replicate the experience gained and increase productivity in other areas,” noted Alexey Markus.
According to him, the company’s employees actively participated in this work: they identified problems with planning orders and loading sites, and then optimized this process by involving specialists from the commercial department.
In order to increase the productivity of the assembly area, the glass sorting work was restructured, transferring some of the functions to other areas. At the cutting site, we organized targeted storage of glass in a warehouse, removal of glass waste without stopping production, and also reinstalled the equipment and equipped the glass breaking table with vacuum suction cups.
To minimize defects and rework, clear criteria for acceptable products, as well as standards for processing products and defects, were defined at each site. The company organized storage areas for inventory and materials - this reduced search time and saved workers an average of 15 minutes per shift.
