Labeling of beer in kegs and glass containers will become mandatory from 2023

The government has approved the dates for the start of mandatory beer labeling in Russia: for beer packed in kegs, including non-alcoholic, it will come into effect from April 1, 2023, for beer in polymer packaging and glass containers - from October 1, 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers says.

For all other types of beer packaging, the marking will come into force on January 15, 2024.

The rule includes malt and non-alcoholic beer, as well as cider, poiret and mead.

Within the established time frame, the business will have to apply means of identification and submit this information to the monitoring system.

To support the industry, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy will develop options for providing tax deductions to manufacturers of products when paying excises. The amount of the deduction can be calculated based on the costs of implementing the label.
