The legendary Lytkarino Optical Glass Plant celebrates its 85th anniversary on Friday, September 20.
In 1933, construction of Plant No. 233 began near the Moscow region village of Lytkarino. At that time, it was called the Mirror Reflector Plant.
On September 20, 1939, the Mirror Reflector Plant released its first batch of products. These were six 1.5-meter searchlight mirrors for anti-aircraft defense systems.
In the same 1939, Lytkarino received the status of a workers' settlement with a population of about six thousand residents and the plant became a city-forming enterprise. After the Great Patriotic War, it was repurposed and given a new name - Lytkarino Optical Glass Plant (LZOS). The enterprise made a great contribution to the development of the country's optical industry and the city of Lytkarino itself.
For 85 years, the LZOS plant has remained a unique enterprise. This is the only company in the world that works with a full technological cycle in the field of instrument engineering: batch production - optical glass melting - heat treatment - cutting - pressing and processing of blanks and parts - development, design and manufacture of optical-electronic devices, units and systems.
