The halls of the Art Department of the Vologda Kremlin are decorated with rare beauty items created by the masters of the Gusevsky Crystal and Zolotkovsky Glass Factories in the Gus-Khrustalny District, as well as the Krasny May Glass Factory in the Vyshnevolotsky District of the Tver Region. Real works of art are displayed in display cases and niches with directional light sources. Get ready to be amazed - the impressive size of the "Grail Cup" - a decorative vase about 60 cm high - will delight! Other exhibits captivate with their fragile beauty and graceful forms - be it glasses repeating the outlines of rosebuds, or a "Plum" dish, as if generously strewn with blue plums. Be careful: the exhibited items cause a "side effect", or rather, an irresistible desire to replenish or update your home crystal collection.
The stylish and aesthetic exhibition "Color Palette" displays more than 150 original and serial works of art glass, released in 1966-2018. The exposition is complemented by modern works of Vladimir artists in the hot enamel technique. All the items are from the collection of the State Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve, which has the richest - more than 13 thousand items - collection of Russian art glass. In August, an exhibition of Vologda lace from the collection of the Vologda Museum-Reserve opened in the museum center "Chambers". The lace masterpieces of Vologda craftswomen conquered the residents of Vladimir and received many warm reviews. "Color Palette" became a return exhibition project within the framework of cooperation between the museums-reserves of the Vologda and Vladimir regions, and now Vologda residents can admire the beautiful products of Vladimir masters of art glass. The collection of colored glass presented at the exhibition is diverse in color shades and design styles.
The Gus Crystal Factory began to brew colored glass and crystal in the second quarter of the 19th century. Thus, cobalt colors glass and crystal in blue tones, manganese gives a purple paint, and chromium creates green glass. Copper makes glass red - this color is called "copper ruby". Ruby shade can also be obtained by adding selenium, it has an interesting property - depending on the proportions of the dye, yellow, orange, red and burgundy glass is obtained. "Marsh" crystal is colored with compounds of arsenic, selenium, chromium, iron oxides and cobalt.
The exhibition reveals the intricacies of the glassblowing profession, which is about 2000 years old. The exposition presents "Galle glass" - these are products made of colored multilayer glass. A complex technology was used for its creation. The production of one item took about two months. This technique was invented by the 19th-century French artist Emile Galle. Olga Kozlova's piece "Chamomile Meadow", made using the free-blowing technique, is dedicated to the beauty of the Meshchera region. It seems that the daisies are made of porcelain, but this is not so - they are made of opaque milky glass. The composition "Islands" is interesting. The crackle effect gives it a special charm - one of the methods of hot glass processing, which forms a surface covered with cracks. The exhibition "Color Palette" will be open until December 8 in the exhibition halls of the art department at the address: Vologda, ul. Sergey Orlova, 15. You can visit it for the price of an entrance ticket to the main exhibition of the museum.
