Results of the Scientific School-Conference with international participation for young scientists «Functional glasses and glassy materials: Synthesis. Structure. Properties»

Dear colleagues!

In the period from 03 to 07 October 2022, an important industry event took place Scientific school-conference with international participation for young scientists “Functional glasses and glassy materials: Synthesis. Structure. Properties".

The conference was held in accordance with the approved plan for the interaction of production, research institutes and educational institutions by the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia together with the Institute of Chemistry of Silicates. I.V. Grebenshchikov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ICS RAS).

Osipov Viktor Ivanovich, President of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia and Kruchinina Irina Yuryevna, Vice-President of "StekloSoyuz" of Russia, Director of the IHS RAS were approved as co-chairs of this industry event.

More than 150 scientists and practitioners from research institutes, universities and enterprises took part in the conference.

The following issues were discussed at the plenary sessions:

- restoration of communication between science, education and production;

- the nature of the glassy state;

- structure of glass-forming melts and glasses;

- computer modelling;

- glass archeometry and artistic glass.

There was also a plenary session on the topic: “Methods of glass synthesis. Technology and production. New and special glasses (bio-, oxygen-free, metal, polymer, optical, etc.), composite materials based on glass”.

Leading scientists shared their achievements in technologies for studying the physicochemical properties of glass-forming melts and glasses. All reports were accompanied by active discussions with conclusions and proposals.

Within the framework of the conference, master classes were held for young scientists, specialists of enterprises and students of higher educational institutions. This type of interaction between the conference participants is an important component for the development of technologies for the production of new types of glass products and the improvement of existing scientific and technical developments.

The work of round tables was organized, including on the topic: “The role of additional professional education in advanced training and training for the glass industry. New forms of interaction between specialized institutions of secondary vocational education, higher educational institutions, scientific organizations and industry enterprises.

As part of the program, the conference participants visited the Mendeleev Center of St. Petersburg State University, the unique library of the Institute of Agriculture of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Delegations of research institutes, educational institutions, enterprises were shown new materials, which were accompanied by scientific comments, including with the participation of academicians and professors.

The new rich format of the industry event, which includes various forms of interaction between the scientific community and representatives of the production environment, provides an opportunity for young scientists, students of educational institutions and enterprise specialists to gain invaluable experience in scientific and industrial knowledge.
