The Association "StekloSouz" of Russia, within the framework of cooperation with the International Holding "EuroMedia" - the media platform of the authorities and sectoral ministries of the Russian Federation, took part in the preparation of the All-Russian Industry Magazine "Bulletin" No. 6 .
The main theme of the issue: “A unified plan to achieve the national development goals of the Russian Federation as a navigator for the development of the country's economy until 2030. The role of regions in creating a comfortable and safe environment”.
This year, the construction industry is celebrating its 65th anniversary. As part of this topic, Viktor Osipov, President Association the StekloSouz of Russia, gave an interview for an information block about the glass industry - one of the key special areas that have a significant impact on the development of the construction complex and the country's economy.

Victor Osipov: “The result of 20 years of development of the glass industry is a multiple increase in production”
According to Victor Osipov, President of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia, the glass industry is one of the few industries that successfully overcome the crisis. The decline in demand in the domestic market was compensated by the growth of exports of various types of glass and products. Over the 20 years of development, the volumes of own production have increased many times over, and now the enterprises of the industry not only meet the country's domestic needs, but also successfully work for export.
— The StekloSouz of Russia today includes over 150 enterprises, and among them are the largest Russian factories. And in terms of the growth of the glass industry, there is probably our contribution. In accordance with two sectoral ten-year development programs from 2000 to 2010 and from 2011 to 2020, the glass industry was able to more than double its own production: sheet glass from 86 million m2 to 246 million m2, glass containers - from 5 .6 billion pieces up to 14.6 billion pieces. According to the forecasts of our specialists, in the short term, starting from 2020, the production level of many segments, such as sheet glass and glass containers, will exceed the 1985 USSR indicators. The production of domestic foam glass, glass mesh, glass fittings has been restored. Fiberglass confidently replaces imported products.
The glass industry is one of the most advanced industries in terms of import substitution. The share of imports for the main types of glass products is no more than 5%. Modern world-class glass factories built over the past 10 years have made it possible to almost completely replace glass imports with Russian-made glass products. As a result, building glass is one of the few types of products of the Russian building materials industry that are competitive on world markets and exported abroad. The geography of Russian glass deliveries is very wide, ranging from neighboring countries, European countries, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
The constant search for internal reserves through independent audits at glass factories allows us to find new opportunities for enterprises and introduce them into production. For example, nine years ago there was no production of foam glass in Russia, and today 7 plants produce glass granulate, two plants produce glass gravel, and two plants for the production of sheet foam glass are also operating. Today, the most dynamically developing segments of modern glass are such areas as fire-resistant glass, the so-called "smart" glass (primarily smart glass); high-tech glass - for example, electrically heated glass.
We are currently working on the 3rd Program for the development of the glass industry in Russia for the period 2021-2030. The main tasks are the reconstruction of enterprises in the industry and the creation of modern production facilities, providing factories with high-quality raw materials, equipment and other services (design, construction and installation works) through the system branch voluntary certification "StekloRegister". The final result of the development over the previous years was the entry of the glass industry into the top five largest exporting industries - this happened in 2020. In the future, the role of the industry in the country's economy will become even more significant.
