In the second decade of September 2023, glass shipments by rail to the Russian market continued to decline (domestic deliveries + imports) and amounted to minus 6.2%. After a long period of steady growth in shipments, negative dynamics were recorded for the third decade in a row.
For the period from the beginning of the year to September 20, 2023, glass shipments by rail to the Russian market amounted to 29.4 million square meters. m, which is 6.4% more than for the same period in 2022 (a decade earlier – plus 6.9%).
Decrease in shipments of glass by rail for the period from January 1 to September 20, 2023 in three districts of the Russian Federation (in brackets - dynamics for the period from the beginning of the year to August 31, 2023):
• Volga Federal District -18.6% (previously -21.9%);
• Southern Federal District -15.7% (previously -8.0%);
• Far Eastern Federal District -12.0% (previously -18.0%).
Glass shipments by rail for the period from January 1 to September 20, 2023 increased in the following districts of the Russian Federation (in parentheses - dynamics for the period from the beginning of the year to August 31, 2023):
• Northwestern Federal District +77.0% (previously +87.1%);
• North Caucasian Federal District +52.3% (previously +48.8%);
• Siberian Federal District +15.5% (previously +22.1%);
• Central Federal District +10.3% (previously +4.8%);
• Ural Federal District +5.5% (previously +9.4%).
For comparison: the dynamics of railway glass shipments in the first 7 months of 2023 was plus 5.9%, and the dynamics of the entire glass market was minus 8.4%. The share of railway supplies of glass to the Russian market in total consumption during this period amounted to 23.2%.
