Gerresheimer to spin off and sell its moulded glass business

Gerresheimer, a German manufacturer of packaging for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, has announced that it has decided to sell its moulded glass business.

The aim of the company’s strategic review was to evaluate various options to achieve the best growth prospects and increase the competitiveness of its moulded glass business. The company is now considering these options outside the Gerresheimer Group.

With the acquisition of Bormioli Pharma, Gerresheimer has formed a strong moulded glass hub with eight production sites in Europe, America and Asia, as well as a diversified product portfolio for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and beverage industries. The moulded glass business is expected to generate revenues of around €735 million in 2024 and an adjusted EBITDA margin of around 20%. The planned divestiture is part of Gerresheimer’s comprehensive transformation into a systems and solutions provider exclusively for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with a specialized product portfolio for primary packaging and drug delivery systems.

The combined molded glass business of Gerresheimer and Bormioli Pharma comprises eight production sites in Germany, Belgium, Italy, the USA and India. The division has extensive expertise and global manufacturing capabilities for glass products of types I, II and III, including decoration and custom manufacturing. The diversified product portfolio includes all types of glass containers for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and processing industries, such as bottles, containers, jars and vials.

As part of the integration of Bormioli Pharma into the Gerresheimer Group, Gerresheimer has begun the transformation of the combined molded glass business into a global, stand-alone company. The decision marks the start of the demerger process. The company subsequently intends to initiate the divestiture process. Gerresheimer will provide further information on this at the upcoming Capital Markets Day on October 15, 2025.
