Dear colleagues, we are publishing news about a member of the Association "StekloSouz" of Russia, Siberian Glass LLC (“Sibsteklo”):
On the sidelines of the XXVII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, LLC Siberian Glass (Sibsteklo, an asset of RATM Holding, one of the leading manufacturers of glass packaging in Russia, the largest recycler of glass waste beyond the Urals) reached agreements on the formation of algorithms for collecting cullet with the top officials of the regions of the Siberian Federal districts and heads of relevant structures.
At the meetings, the environmental program of Sibstekla was presented, which provides for reducing the industrial load by using glass waste and reducing the weight of glass containers, due to which the company is increasing the production of glass products from one ton of glass melt. In the product structure, lightweight packaging already accounts for 89% – nine times more than in 2015. In collaboration with AB InBev Efes, the weight of the bottle was reduced from 265 to a record 235 grams. Currently, the share of cullet in the composition of raw materials for colorless containers is up to 35%, brown – up to 60%.
According to Anton Mor, General Director of Sibstekla, since the company sells 95% of container glass in the Siberian Federal District and Far Eastern Federal District, it is, first of all, interested in returning glass waste from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation located beyond the Urals into economic circulation.
“Among the proposals for discussion is the organization of special areas there for storing used glass for the purpose of subsequent transportation to a glass factory in Novosibirsk,” says Anton More. – The frequency of shipments and delivery depends on the rate of accumulation of cullet: logistics costs should not negate the feasibility of using waste glass in the production process.
According to the President of RATM Holding Eduard Taran, the transition to a “green” economy, which involves, first of all, rational consumption of natural resources, minimizes the risks of impact on the environment.
“At Sibstekl they are trying to change the ratio of mineral components and glass waste in favor of the latter; the presence of recycling capacities allows the enterprise to become a key link in the MSW management system,” comments Eduard Taran. – We are joining forces with executive authorities; the environmental and economic agendas do not require compromises: solutions through which they will complement each other on a regional scale will be found through joint work.
