Denmark is building a recycling plant with a ski resort on the roof

The climate of Denmark, located in the north of Europe, is the best suited for skiing. But the terrain does not allow to do this - there are no mountain slopes. Therefore, the construction of artificial ski slopes is the best solution to this problem. But the authors of the project went further and decided to merge the ski slope with an enterprise for processing and recycling household waste.

The author of the idea was the architect Bjarke Ingels and his company Bjarke Ingels Group. Initially, the architectural bureau received an order to design a recycling plant, which is planned to be located in the suburbs of Copenhagen. The authors of the project decided to combine production functions with a sports and entertainment center. In addition to the three downhill runs, there are cafes, restaurants and recreation areas for lovers of skiing. In summer, everyone will be able to visit the ski resort. During the warm season, a park area will be set up on the roof of the waste recycling plant.

The very idea of ​​combining a winter resort with an enterprise that recycles household garbage also performs a propaganda function. This project is designed to draw public attention to the problem of household waste, to tell people how incineration turns waste into energy as a result of incineration, and also to show how much carbon dioxide is produced in this process. For a more visual representation of the production process in the building of the new complex, the creation of an exhibition center is planned. According to the developers, such a close acquaintance with the process of utilization of household waste will allow people not only to understand its essence, but also to take a fresh look at the main problem of modern consumer society. In addition, as Bjarke Ingels hopes, this unique project is able to prove to the world that recycling can be not only environmentally friendly, but also bring tangible economic benefits.
