According to the regional Ministry of Environment, there are four solid waste landfills in the region. In the west of the region, the main is the Kurgolovo test site, in the east - Barsukovka. The waste sorting complex has a design capacity of up to 40 thousand tons in the village of Zhavoronkovo of the Gusevsky urban district.
The new landfill can be located in the Bagrationovsky district, there is a corresponding section there, the governor specified. He added that the region is interested in developing a business focused on sorting and recycling garbage. "We are ready to credit such a business at 3% per annum for the creation of new productions. We are interested in developing enterprises that can recycle, for example, paper, glass, plastic, and produce finished products from them. We have money to create such industries laid down through the Foundation for the Support of Entrepreneurship and the Development of Industry, "he explained.
According to the regional operator "Unified Waste Management System" (ESOO), the Kruglovo test site has been operating in the field since 1977. The site area is 3 hectares; it receives waste from cities in the western part of the region, including Baltiysk, Svetlogorsk and Kaliningrad. Landfill "Barsukovka" opened in 2012 on an area of 7.5 hectares and serves, in particular, the city of Sovetsk, Slavsky and Neman districts.
