German winemakers have said that there is a shortage of bottles

However, according to a representative of the company Wittmer GmbH dealing with the sale of glass containers, the reason is not only the overproduction of wine, but the fact that in recent years, companies producing refreshing drinks are increasingly abandoning plastic containers in favor of glass. "Concerns producing beverages are increasingly abandoning bottles of artificial materials and returning to glass," he told the agency.

According to statistics, German companies produced 750 million liters of wine in 2018. About 60% of them are white, 40% are red or pink. As a rule, a third of these products are exported, the rest is sold on the domestic market. The largest number of wine-growing farms are located in the regions of Rheingessen (28%) and Palatinate (21%).

An average German drinks about 20 liters of wine a year. In 2018, the consumption of beverages fell by 0.5 liters - because of the hot summer and the World Cup, the Germans preferred beer.
