Archyouth: future architects fantasized on glazing topics

This year the competition is being held for the second time - students of educational institutions of the architectural profile: Moscow College of Architecture, Design and reengineering "26th frame" and the Moscow Architectural Institute (MARCHI). The initiator of the competition is the well-known company in the glass market, SP Glass, which produces high-quality flat glass and double-glazed windows.

Needless to say, it is important for an architectural project to choose the right type of glazing - after all, the market now has an enormous amount of glass for various purposes - impact-resistant, energy-efficient, magnetron, with special coating, molded (curved, accepting various forms), etc. Contestants showed a remarkable knowledge of the features of modern glazing, opting for the most "advanced" developments in this area.

The competition was held in four nominations: an individual house, a multi-storey building, a hall-type building, a graduate project (in this case, a graduate of the “26th frame” college).

In the “High-rise building” nomination, the jury was impressed with the “grown-up” elaborated high-rise building project, presented by the “26th frame” college student Maxim Gavrilin. Maxim took the famous House of the People"s Commissariat of Finance, a monument of the constructivism era, as a basis.

“I applied here all those ideas that the constructivists once declared,” Maxim said in defense of the project. - Tape glazing, operated roof, apartment-cell, which became the prototype of the current studio apartments.

The high-rise building of Maxim consists of separate sections connected by a gallery, and everywhere there is access to the roof - as it should be, with landscaping, places for recreation. The building turned out to be stepped, which only adds to it architectural expressiveness.

Looking ahead, let"s say: Maxim Gavrilin has the first place in this nomination.

Natalya Makarenko, a college student, presented a curious idea - thinking over the shape of a building in Barcelona, Spain, she took as a basis the shape of a tree with outgrowth mushrooms.

In the nomination "Individual House" "shot" the project of Anna Danilova in the style of minimalism. The jury noted the clarity, clarity, purity of the "window" lines.

“At the same time, we had the thought:“ I want such a house! ”Said the jury member, chief architect of Schueco, Ekaterina Trots.

The project of an apartment building in the Art Nouveau style made by college student A. Muratova also turned out to be quite curious. The project impresses with its unusual, rounded shape of windows. True, the experts slightly scolded the participant because she did not provide for the function of opening windows (the house stands outdoors!) - replacing it with artificial ventilation.

The design solution of Ilya Metalnikov “Gallery AremKUZ”, which threatened the reconstruction of an abandoned factory in the Kozhukhovskaya metro station, was highly appreciated. The author proposed to create an arched system of monolithic reinforced concrete, turning the plant into an art center with the function of opening day.

“I like the fact that you work with an unobvious legacy, which, in fact, is the first candidate for demolition,” commented the project member of the jury, the chief editor of the online publication Archspeech, Alexander Zmeul.

“This is a very noble task — returning degrading urban areas to circulation,” added architect Grant Eolyan to his jury colleague.

In the competition marathon, the work of student Xenia Fiohina, a Woodland media library, was also noted. The project is based on the idea of imitation - the facade of the building imitates stone, water, wood (and, moreover, the "organics" of the tree, in the literal sense). The building has a lot of glass - the glazing of the library is panoramic - with a variety of functions.

Finally, in the last, fourth, nomination (graduates), quite interesting work was shown by Vladislav Pimonov. The author came up with glazing from different types of glass.

- I decided that in my project every resident will choose which glass he likes more: someone in the apartment will have dark, someone milky white, someone color, etc. - the participant told at the presentation.

Noting an interesting idea, the jury nevertheless complained that such a project would be difficult to bring to life, since not everyone would be ready to choose such a “non-standard” glazing.

As a result, the winners of the competition were: Anna Danilova (nomination “Individual House”), Gavrilin Maxim (nomination “Multi-storey building”), Metalnikov Ilya (hall-type building), Pimonov Vladislav (nomination: graduates of the college “26th frame”).

The competition showed the maturity of student work and a fairly close acquaintance of future architects with glass production technologies and features of modern glazing.
