With all my heart I congratulate you on the holiday - Glass Industry Worker's Day!

The professional holiday of glass industry workers in Russia has been celebrated since 2000, on November 19 - the birthday of the outstanding Russian scientist, poet, educator, one of the most outstanding luminaries of world science, statesman and public figure Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov (11/19/1711-04/15/1765 ).

Mikhail Vasilievich Lomonosov wrote:

M.V. Lomonosov was the creator of the chemical production of glaze, glass, and porcelain. He developed the technology and recipe for colored glass - smalt (pieces of a homogeneous opaque mixture of glass and metal oxides), which he used to create mosaic paintings. Developed the composition of porcelain mass.

Glass, which nowadays cannot be dispensed with in almost any area of human life and activity, including products for state security, was obtained over five thousand years ago. The oldest examples of glass products that have come down to us were discovered during excavations in Egyptian cities.

In Rus', the production of artistic glass products (mosaics, dishes, bracelets) has existed since the beginning of the 11th century. Glass manufacturing technology was adopted from the Byzantines, and already in the time of Yaroslav the Wise, Kyiv craftsmen began to produce lead-silica glass. And the foundations of the classical scientific approach to glass production in Russia were laid in the mid-18th century by Lomonosov.

Despite such an ancient history, glass production became widespread only at the end of the 19th century thanks to the invention of the Siemens-Martin furnace and the factory production of soda. And sheet glass is a completely modern product: the technology for its production was developed in the second half of the 20th century.

The Association "StekloSouz" of Russia has been working for the benefit of the development of our wonderful industry for more than 20 years!

The Russian glass industry is one of the most successful and constantly developing in the world. Our goal is to develop the domestic Russian glass market and search for new consumers of glass products.

At the 24th annual international Forum “Glass and Modern Technologies - XXI”, which will take place on December 14, 2023, at the Russian Chemical Technology University named after. DI. Mendeleev at the address Moscow, Miusskaya Square, 9, Big Assembly Hall (entrance from 1st Miusskaya Street, 3 / checkpoint) we will meet with you again and discuss the problems that hinder the development of the glass industry, we will determine ways to solve them solutions. We will identify areas that contribute to the growth and improvement of production until 2030.
