Glass Museum (Tacoma, Washington)

The Glass Museum is located on 75 thousand square feet in Tacoma, Washington state. This is an art museum dedicated to glass. Since its inception, the Museum of Glass has been designed to create a space for nurturing artists, introducing education and encouraging creativity.

The very idea of creating a Museum of Glass came about in 1992, when Dr. Philip M. Phibs, the recently retired President of Puget Sound University, spoke with the Tacoma community and the famous glassblower Dale Chihaly, judging that the Pacific Northwest contribution to the glass studio would be justified and rational to create a Museum of Glass. He presented this idea to the Tacoma Executive Council.

The site for the museum was chosen in 1995, and two years later the famous Canadian architect Arthur Erickson showed the design of the future museum. The construction of the museum began in 2000. The official opening of the museum took place on July 6, 2002.
