Packaging magazine: our contribution to education (30 years in the information and educational packaging market)

This year the editorial office of the Tara and Packaging magazine celebrates its 30th anniversary! Beginning in 1990, the editorial staff began to collect thematic publications on packaging problems, which were very rare then in Russia, and began to complete their own scientific, technical and practical library.

The fact is that then, at the very beginning of the 90s, in the conditions of perestroika, in conditions when many periodicals and even publishing houses were closed, - to publish a new intersectoral journal of a little-known and not everyone then understandable subject, and moreover, in the absence of the system of the country's economy of the packaging industry - it was not easy ...

“The editorial staff, our partners and authors were in dire need of fresh, objective knowledge then! - says the editor-in-chief of the magazine Igor Smireny, - Literally bit by bit, we collected rare then dictionaries, reference books, textbooks and study guides, monographs, illustrated albums - on packaging topics. Some of them managed to be brought from abroad, and some had to be created by ourselves. The entry of editorial staff into the International Packaging Press Organization (IPPO) helped a lot in those years. Thanks to this, in the 90s, the editorial office received packaging magazines from many countries of the world. These magazines were then our main teaching aid! Our foreign partners from Italy, Germany and other countries also helped us. "

At the very end of the 90s, at the initiative of the Tara and Packaging magazine in Russia, a new specialty - "Technologies and Design of Packaging Production" was first created and introduced in several universities. Moreover, it turned out to be in demand by the rapidly developing packaging industry. And in the country, occasionally and alas, only in scanty print runs, new books on packaging topics began to appear - reference manuals, monographs and even textbooks. Moreover, many of them were tested in the editorial office of the Tara and Packaging magazine, and as a result they ended up on the shelves of the library created by the magazine ...

And, of course, over the past years, the editorial office has accumulated a huge number of copies of the Tara and Packaging magazine, each of which, in its essence, was, to some extent, a unique textbook not only for students, but also for teachers. After all, the magazine's topics have always covered the widest range of issues related to the development of a new branch of the Russian economy. And for many Russian universities, the opening of new specialties and specializations related to technologies and packaging design was associated with a subscription to the magazine, literally as almost the only one in those years - a textbook! So, year after year, the editorial office developed its own unique library ...

This year, in connection with the 30th anniversary of the journal and the intensive development of educational processes, the editorial staff decided to transfer this unique library to several universities in Moscow. In particular, books and magazines from the unique library will be sent to the specialized departments of the Moscow State University of Technology. K. G. Dear Igor Nikolaevich, thank you very much for donating a large set of scientific, technical and educational literature on packaging topics to the fund of our Institute. Of course, the literature on the problems of design and technologies for the production of packaging products, collected over 30 years by the staff of the editorial staff of the magazine "Packaging and Packaging" is of great interest to students and teachers.

Modern achievements in the field of creating new packaging materials and packaging designs and their design, which have been presented on the pages of the magazine and its applications for 30 years, have become for universities and colleges in Russia with the direction of training "Technology of printing and packaging production" (profile "Technology and design of packaging production ") - one of the main sources of improving the quality of knowledge about the role and importance of packaging in the economy of our country.

Important scientific and educational material is constantly reflected in the magazine on the examples of leading enterprises of the packaging industry, where the problems of creating packaging materials with high barrier properties for food products, modern packaging machinery have been dealt with for a long time and successfully.

Of particular interest are scientific and review articles, opinions of leading domestic and foreign experts in the packaging industry, presented in the journal in the areas of creation and development of new technological solutions in packaging production.
