The glasstec 2020 exhibition is postponed!

New date: June 15 - 18, 2021.

Industry and industry alliances support the solution.

The consequences of the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic also affected the glasstec 2020 exhibition, which is being postponed and will now be held from June 15 to June 18, 2021. Messe Düsseldorf decided to postpone for these dates in close cooperation with the Organizing Council and all participating partners based on the current current situation in the industry and the still unsafe situation regarding travel and quarantine regulations in the main target markets. The world's largest industry exhibition was originally planned for the period from October 20 to October 23, 2020. Already, Messe Dusseldorf, together with industry associations, is working on digital formats for the service for 2020, so that exhibitors and their customers can meet online and interested experts can see new “offers” in digital format at the time of the exhibition scheduled earlier. Further details will follow shortly.

“The economic crisis that followed the Corona pandemic, as well as other industries, has significantly affected the manufacturers of machinery and equipment in the glass industry. Many firms are forced to reorganize their work in a crisis mode and review all investment plans, including participation in exhibitions, in order to reduce the possible negative consequences of the crisis. Any travel restrictions and protecting the health of visitors and exhibitors will directly affect the number of visitors. A truncated glasstec 2020 with a significantly smaller number of visitors would, in our opinion, not be worthy of the status of the exhibition. The glasstec exhibition is and remains the leading global industry event for the glass industry, mechanical engineering and handicraft production, and in order for it to remain so, we made the decision to transfer. In 2021, we expect to hold a “strong” glasstec with a large international presence that fits perfectly into the market revitalization phase of the crisis following the Corona pandemic, “said Egbert Wenninger, Chair of the Glasstec Trade Fair Organizing Council and Chair of the Glass Technology Forum at the German Engineering Union (VDMA).

Mr. Dr. Overath, Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Union for the Glass Industry, states the following regarding the new deadline: “The glasstec exhibition is the leading industry exhibition in the glass industry. She lives thanks to serious international participation and unites specialists from all over the world who are enthusiastically working in the field of glass production. Many companies and visiting visitors, if the exhibition was held this year, would have refused or substantially reduced their participation in the exhibition due to the Covid-19 pandemic for economic reasons. We agree and fully share the decision of the organizers not to hold the exhibition this year. The glasstec exhibition should be rescheduled for such a period when it is not the Corona virus that plays the decisive role, but the GLASS material. ”

Also, glass artisans are joining the decision to postpone the exhibition to next year.

“The many factors that still exist in connection with glasstec 2020 pose an unacceptable risk to potential exhibitors regarding the necessary exhibition planning and related investments. Therefore, we welcome the postponement of the exhibition to 2021, the purpose of which is to conduct such a glasstec exhibition that meets its high level, ”said Michael Wolter, President of the Federal Union of Glass Artisans.

Werner M. Dornscheidt, Chairman of the Management Board Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, thanks all the partners for their wonderful cooperation in this special situation “In close cooperation with the Industrial Unions, key exhibitors, as well as all partners, we were able to come to a common decision on a new deadline. We are very pleased that with this decision we can offer all participants the most reliable planning dates. Of course, we are also in close contact with the hotel industry and all parties involved, looking for viable solutions, ”said Mr. Dornscheidt.

“The safety and health of our visitors and exhibitors and employees is, of course, the most important priority for us at the upcoming exhibition. Appropriate safety precautions are being developed and are currently being taken together with conceptual partners (the German Engineering Union (VDMA), the Federal Glass Artisans Union). Throughout the exhibition complex Messe Düsseldorf, there is, as usual, a high level of hygiene, as well as good medical care, which is important for exhibitions that will be held in the fall of 2020. We are very closely monitoring the development of the situation and are in this connection in close contact with the authorities. Thus, we guarantee that any new knowledge and measures will be applied and adapted to the current situation, ”Mr. Dornscheidt emphasized.
