Heliogen-sponsored billionaire Bill Gates-based startup has built a solar power plant. Large mirrors direct sunlight toward each other and generate heat in excess of 1000 degrees Celsius. It is reported by CNN.

Most solar power plants use heat to turn water into steam, which drives turbines. Heliogen mirror panels act together as one magnifying lens in the system. The general principle is similar to a magnifying glass that can cause a fire. Concentrated solar energy can be used in the production of cement, steel, glass and other industries. Moreover, such a production, according to Gates, will be cheaper than traditional.

Bill Gates believes that by 2031 the world will make a breakthrough in clean energy. Heliogen plans to develop energy storage methods for future use.
